Ann De Koninck

The one with the kind eyes.

We had a lovely time talking about life, values and our place(s) in society. Toni Morrison said, "we do language which may be the measure of life."

Ann spoke of how we are all people, we aren't more or less. 'I long for a society that is more diverse, inclusive, more beautiful, open and broad where everyone gets seen. Therefore language is key, if we stay silent, nothing will change. It's important to speak up when you can, in big ways and in the smallest of ways. Don't let those moments pass.'

Ann's message is one of love, as George Takei put it: "We should indeed calm in the face of difference, and live our lives in a state of inclusion and wonder at the diversity of humanity." She started with a plea for adding gender neutral pronouns in job applications and hopefully other areas will follow.
